The Schanz Craftsmanship Process
Every living room piece follows the same rigorous standards that have defined Schanz Furniture since 1965:
- Wood Selection: Every board is handpicked for grain, tone, and durability. Only premium kiln-dried hardwoods make the cut – no particle board, no veneers.
- Precision Joinery: We use dovetail joints, mortise-and-tenon construction, and other time-tested techniques that ensure stability and beauty for generations.
- Hand-Applied Finish: Your furniture is sanded, stained, and finished by hand to bring out the natural character of solid wood.
- Maker’s Signature: Every piece is personally signed by the craftsman who built it. They take pride in the work and it shows.

Since 1965, Schanz Furniture has been part of the living heritage of the Amana Colonies—a region known for authentic craftsmanship, community values, and time-honored traditions. We’re located right along U.S. Highway 6 in South Amana, and we welcome visitors Monday through Saturday, 9 AM to 5 PM.
Step into our working woodshop and experience the sights, sounds, and scents of authentic handmade furniture production. Watch our master craftsmen shape raw lumber into functional art using the same techniques passed down through generations. This is more than retail—it’s a living legacy of craftsmanship you can see, touch, and experience in person.
